Electronic cigarettes have been around since 2003 and have been hugely popular since their conception in China, and now millions have switched over from smoking tobacco cigarettes to this electric counterpart due to lung cancer awareness. These devices were initially introduced in Europe and the USA, but now more and more people worldwide are jumping on the bandwagon. I’ve heard that India is currently forms one of the second largest consumer base next to the United States, and the numbers are on a sharp rise.
Most of the e-cigarettes that are sold by the different brands do get manufactured in China, and although there are some small differences between the different e-cigarette models, they generally work in the same fashion.
In general, the electronic cigarette is made up of 3 basic sections: the largest part is the battery, followed by the atomizer and the cartridge that holds the e-liquid.
The cartridge is the section that you put to your mouth and also where you fill it up with the e-juice flavor of your preference. In the case where there are e cigs that look like real cigarettes, the cartridge mimics the filter section or the “butt” of the analogue version.
The e-cigarette’s cartridge in most cases also includes the atomizer, and when it is connected to the main battery, current from the battery activates the coils in the atomizer causing them to heat up and transform the nicotine liquid into vapor. This vapor looks and feels extremely similar to smoke coming from a real cigarette. The only difference is that the smoke is a lot less harmful and it doesn’t leave a trail of tobacco stench behind. In fact, this vapor normally dissipates within seconds without a trace or leftover smell. The vapor contains small traces of nicotine and you would inhale and exhale the vapor just like you would with regular tobacco smoke. That is when people jump on to electronic cigarettes, they never crave for tobacco cigarettes. It looks, and feels just like the real thing!
One really common feature that you will find on many electronic cigarette models is the LED tip. This LED lights up to signal when the atomizer is in use.
Some models have automatic batteries and while others, a manual battery. Most brands of electronic cigarettes will give you the option of choosing either or. With the automatic ones, the LED lights up when you inhale through the cartridge, while on the manual e-cigs, the LED lights up when you press the “on” switch (located on the battery).
To see these the auto’s and the manuals in action, check out the Halo e cigarette review and also my V2 e-cig review, that I recorded recently. The videos included will give you a fairly good idea on how these batteries work.
